Marijuana Law

Michigan’s Marijuana laws have gone through a profound change since 2008. The original citizen’s initiative has now evolved into a 2016 statute establishing an industry to supply patients with medical marijuana replacing the former patient-caregiver system. Many states have legal marijuana available to registered patients with more states considering this law.
Many states and Canada now have legalized recreational use of marijuana. It is on Michigan’s ballot for voter’s consideration in 2018.
With these changes come a complex set of laws and regulations regulating marijuana commerce. Arguably it is the most heavily regulated industries in this state. While it presents many opportunities, it has several pitfalls for the unprepared. Some of these pitfalls include criminal liability and expensive civil fines and charges.
